Hi Susan, I wanted to send you a short email to say thanks for your page, www.susancrow.com/advent2009/Day16/index.asp. I volunteer with a children's group, where I help plan different events. This holiday season, we are teaching the kids about going green since a lot of times their old toys and games end up in the garbage. Your page has some great information for this. Thanks a bunch!

My daughter, Becky, found a great environmentally friendly black friday guide while helping me research, www.bestbuy.com/site/black-friday-news/environmentally-friendly-black-friday/pcmcat1478900815338.c?id=pcmcat1478900815338. Can you include this in your list of links? She is very passionate about helping the environment, so I thought her sharing her suggestion would give her some extra encouragement. :-)

If you have any tips for our group, feel free to pass them on, and happy holidays!!
Take care,

Four years of wonderful Advent Calendars! And we continue to celebrate the Twelve Days of Christmas, through New Years, Epiphany, Twelfth Night!

Susan, I have so enjoyed your Advent Calendar this year. It is so nice that you have created this family tradition. We love and appreciate Betts and Martha so much. Looking forward already to Advent Season 2010.

Perfect ending to a perfect Advent calendar, Susan! And perfect beginning to the liturgical season of Christmas and the new year! Thank you for the wonderful gift of the Advent calendar you have given us, and thank you, Lord, for the wonderful gift of Christ and Christmas!

I remember that doll of yours!

I'm so glad the Belleview Biltmore is closed for renovations and not just closed! Good news!
Jenny, I haven't heard Go Tell it on the Mountain this whole Christmas season. Wonder if I can go until the 25th without hearing it?

Oh, it wasn't the Biltmore's last Christmas. It is closed for remodeling and will reopen in 2012 - restored to its original character (none of that weird "modern" stuff they added that didn't match at all). When it opens again, we'll have to go for tea. I'm so glad they didn't tear it down to build condos!

I'm glad we went to the Biltmore, too. That turned out to be its last Christmas, after all these years of being a Clearwater destination and landmark.

Looking forward to some of Judi's good cooking in a few days!

Thanks for today's calendar picture, Susan. That angel looks very familiar!!! Beautifully done!
Love, Daddy

Thanks, Susan, for a nice angelic puzzle to work on this sleepless 2 a.m. And a good choice of carol -- we can use that "angel with healing in its wings"!

Some Children See Him is part of one of my favorite Christmas memories - the Christmas program/choir concert at KCA that was a story told around all the carols that a family wrote together, including Some Children See Him. Another of my favorite carols from that family is We'll Dress the House, where the first verses are all about the exciting rush of preparation, and the final verse slows down and sings about quietly preparing our hearts for the coming of Jesus.

Wow, Susan, what a wonderful entry this one today (Dec. 17) is. You know, as often as I've heard that song, I'd never heard the stanzas, just the chorus. Thanks for bringing it to our consciousness!

Mary and Laura were on the same wavelength this year. Mama was always a masterful regifter. :-)

And we all know how well penguins and poinsettias go together!
posted by Martha Huntley, December 16, 2009

Ah, what this cake needs is a penguin. Better yet, make it two penguins! Huh, wonder if I could get a palm tree in there too.

Love the picture and David's comments about lights -- it looks like a Christmas card.

Why is this the first time we're hearing about your Christmas duck? That's hilarious! Very Yeti!

Harry Belafonte was a good Muppet host, it would have been cool to have him sing "Mary's Boy Child" with Kermit, Gonzo, et. al. And The Muppet Christmas Carol is one of the best versions of Dickens ever!

Sorry, Mama, you can't have the duck. I've grown kind of fond of him. But here's a picture for you. Click here.

Judi, I'd love to see a picture of you and Bud where we could tell what you looked like back then!!

Susan, I'd never heard the Christmas duck story! He's cute! If you ever decide you don't want him in the office, we can give him a good home.
Mary, we ate that duck. Yes, it was live when we got it, and yes it bit me.
Then there was the dead, dressed chicken wrapped up that sat under our tree for a week in Seoul -- a present from our Korean pastor and his wife when they came to dinner Dec. 17!

December 11 - What a neat picture!

Mama and Daddy have another Christmas duck story. When we were in Sunchon, they found a beautifully wrapped Christmas present at the front door. And when Daddy picked it up, the present bit him! It was a live duck. I don't know what they did with the duck.... Mama & Daddy, do you remember?
posted by Mary, December 10, 2009

Lots of good suggestions, Laura. I don't know if I'll be able to cut out wrapping paper, but I promise that I will recycle the bows!

Dec. 5 -- loved your comments today, Laura! A girl after my own heart!!
posted by Martha Huntley, December 5, 2009

Yeah, there's always football competing with the decorating of the tree. Why is that??
posted by Jenny, December 4, 2009

December 3 - Mary, I can't wait to see what gift tags you make this year. Your cross-stitched ornaments are my favorites and look beautiful on my tree.
