When we were little, Mama would order an Advent calendar every year and we would take turns opening the windows. Behind each tiny window was a surprise – a picture or Bible verse. What a great way to count down the days until the BIG DAY.

As I got older, I realized that anticipation can be just as much fun as the actual event. And that Christmas isn’t just about one day. It’s a whole season of family times and traditions, friends and food, music and laughter and sharing.

So please enjoy my Advent calendar this month of December and we’ll celebrate the Christmas season together.

Comments:

Thanks for letting me know about posting my poem ~ how nice! It's good to know someone else is as jazzed about Advent Calendars as I am!

Merry Christmas!

Thanks, Bob. I couldn't have done it without you!

And thanks to all my family for reading my web-site and for contributing your stories, pictures and recipes (even though you didn't know why I asked for them). You are the best Christmas gift I could ever receive.
Love, Susan

The advent calendar has helped me discover that the Huntley family is blessed with incredibly smart and gifted individuals. Each of them has wonderful tales to tell of 'growing up Huntley'. I feel fortunate to work and be friends with the one who created this unique website. Merry Christmas to all the Huntleys and Crows and Marios and Wagners.

Dear Susan and other "First Christmas" Huntleys/Crows/Marios/Wagners/Others
I have gone periodically to this unique web-site, and developed an admiration for your large and happy family. I'm glad I can be considered as one branch on that family tree (Christmas & genetic). My computer, or the public library computer where I go for a broad-band connection, would not link to some of your days. My favorite is Day 10 so far. Best wishes to all of you who may be reading these comments on your (Susan's) superb web-site. Uncle Reid/Reid/Reid DeBerry

Love it! You KNOW how I love How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Did not know most of this. It occurred to me that if Seuss were writing it today, Mt. Crumpit would probably be Mt. Armpit! Love you, Mama

Me, too, Gretchen! Thanks for your good posting. I would add that one of my favorite things about Christmas is being with the family, all together, like this year at your house!! Love, Grandmama

Dec. 11 -- a great thought, as always! Mary, I had forgotten it was you who introduced our family to The Best Christmas Pageant Ever! I love that book. She's come out with some others since, and I want to get those too. Love you all, Mama

Every morning I have to run and turn on the computer to see what's inside for today. And I know for a fact that there's even more interesting and fun things to come.

Wow, Susan, what a beginning! All those wonderful Christmas memories, from A-Z, through the years! I have some more, too -- the cookie making in Korea, the wrapping, the parties for Kang Min and boys, caroling, the Christmas programs for the Air Base folks, the First Safety Harbor Christmas Eve candlelight services and the Christmas pageants and plays. The time you and Jenny sang with Daddy. Ahhhh...and the wonderful thing, the memories don't end, and there are more being made every day. I love you and am so proud of you! Mama
