Just finished unpacking from our wonderful First Christmas.  The Dec. 24 Advent entry is just perfect -- doing the Advent wreath there in NC these past few days made precious new memories for me.  Also, I loved the picture from our Kwangju house that went with this entry.  Love & thanks, Mama

Yep, that's our Ron!  We have all benefited from his love for anything that goes on four wheels!

Yes, Muffin clearly never read, or perhaps she chose to ignore the rule about "never eat off the buffet table."
And by the way, which epic movie are we going to see this year??

Dec. 19 -- adorable!  I hope all the dogs out there reading your Advent calendar take heed!  I am realizing anew how much our pets, especially Pepsi, Muffin and most of all Baby James added to our Christmas celebration.  Baby James always had his chew bone while we opened gifts and always picked it up to pose with when we took pictures.  Love, Mama

Baby James was good at giving those long, comforting dog leans.  And Muffin was good at eating off the buffet table. :-)

Was it Rosemary or was it Rose Mary?
Her birth certificate says Rose Mary Mitchell.
Her SS registration was Rosemary Mitchell, later Rosemary M. Wagner.
Some early school report cards were for Rosemary Mitchell.
She is in her class year book as Rose Mary twice and Rosemary seven times.
Her high school diploma reads Rose Mary Mitchell.
Her wedding license reads Rose Mary Mitchell.
Her death certificate reads Rose Mary Wagner.
She always used Rose Mary, or simply Rose, but she would answer to either.
Aunt Mary Zinn always called her Rosemary.
I didn't care. Her name wasn't why I married her.

This is a precious picture; I have seen it before, and I think Laura at that age looked right much like the young Rose.  It was fun hearing about the Wagner Christmases and thinking about Rose and all she did for and meant to her family and extended family.  Mama

That's such a cute picture.  David and Laura do look like little dolls.

Ron and I still have the bride and groom Barbie and Ken dolls that Rose gave us for our wedding.  As Roy said, "Rose had a knack for knowing what gift to give, and it was usually something a little bit out of the ordinary."  I think her greatest gift was raising such a neat family.  Merry Christmas, Wagners!

Oh!  Smells!  My favorite too!  Even now, I'm (illegally) burning a Glade Glistening Snow candle in my room. Not to mention the Pine scented candle burning in the living room my roommate and I share with our suitemate.  Cinnamon, pine, everything oh yes I love it.  But not just the smells, the tastes!!  Earlier I was at the coffee shop in the Union with 2 friends and we talked about how much we love the special holiday drinks like Harvest Spice and all that.  Oh man!  I can't wait to get home and have my first slice of pumpkin pie since 2006. Yes, it's been that long! How awful... :(

Yes, Michael's memory is perfect.  Drinking hot chocolate--especially right after playing in the snow!  Kwanshi used to make it for us on the stove, with milk and Hershey's baking cocoa, some sugar, and those little marshmallows on top.  The instant stuff doesn't compare.

Lights - always interesting.  Shall they be white or colored?  Blinking?  How many strands is enough?

And then there's exterior lighting.  Our next-door neighbor always provides a source of entertainment for us.  If he puts lights up this year, I'll be sure to send out a picture...

One year my roommate Sue and I went to her boyfriend's house out in the country and cut down a tree from his acreage (he was renting, so we probably weren't supposed to do that....).  We had no money for ornaments, and only 1 strand of functioning lights, so we draped it to make a big cross, used a few yards of eyelet ribbon I had for a garland, and picked little holly sprigs for decorations.  It was actually really pretty, and smelled marvelous.
